Stars shine at sports awards

Athletes, coaches and supporters turned out for the Kapiti Sportsperson of the Year Awards ceremony on Monday night. About 230 people at Southward Car Museum saw taekwondo gold medallist Rose Biddiscombe take the overall award ahead of other award winners Reyon Kay, Dayna Haylock, Jayden Stratford and the Paekakariki open women’s surf boat crew. Guest speaker Irene van Dyk entertained the crowd with a humorous insight into her career as a netballer, and how she sees the sport changing in the future.
